Pind Daan : Rituals for Pitru Moksha

Pind Daan is a Hindu ritual performed to pay homage and offer prayers to departed ancestors. The term "Pind" refers to a rounded heap of cooked rice and other sacred materials offered during the ceremony. This ritual is believed to help the souls of deceased family members attain peace and salvation.

In Pind Daan, the Hindu religious homage for the souls of the departed and spirits of ancestors, pind is the symbolic offering in the ritual. Pind is a ball of rice or wheat flour mixed with dried milk, honey, and sesame seeds. The Hindu priests officiating the ritual offer seven pinds or balls. One of these seven balls is specifically offered for the soul of the deceased family member.
